My daughter was severely brain-injured
Topics: Testimonials
Cathy, one of our readers, shared the following testimony of love and life:
My daughter was severely brain-injured at the age of 9. We were told she was in a PVS and that I should put her in a home and get on with my life. I couldn't imagine it, and was lucky enough to find a group that taught coma-stimulation therapy that we could administer to her at my home with the help of volunteers.
I was able to bring Bree home 8 months after her accident and we started doing the therapy soon therafter. She started responding right away and began her journey back to awareness and interaction with her surroundings. She had many landmarks along the way, but the most significant was: her ability to speak came 7 years post-injury!!! It wasn't immediate and it's still hard to understand her at times, but it allowed us to find out that she had her long term memory intact and she was able to make jokes and learn new things. All because we didn't give up on her and kept doing therapy with her.
Thank you for you for recognizing that the value and dignity of your daughter's life was unchanged by her accident!
