Attorney for Schiavo's family describes woman's last days

Topics: Euthanasia

Davd Gibbs, attorney for Terri Schindler-Schiavo's parents, recently spoke about Terri's last days at Berean Baptist Church. Gibbs recently published a book, "Fighting for Dear Life: The Untold Story of Terri Schiavo and What It Means for All of Us."

Gibbs vividly described standing with Schiavo's mother, Mary Schindler, during her last visit to her daughter.

"I was terribly embarrassed for our nation. I thought, 'In God's name, what are we doing,'" Gibbs said. "Instead of doing what we can to try to foster life, we're literally watching her die."

"During Mary Schindler's last visit to see her daughter, Terri Schiavo's breathing was loud, and she was gasping, Gibbs said. Her faced was stretched thin, and the color was gone. Her tongue and roof of her mouth were "flaking and literally coming apart from lack of water."

"And, he said, Terri Schiavo shed some tears as her mother cried."
