Scott Thomas Update--Good news thus farTopics:
At a recent hearing, Judge Wilkes awarded Scott Thomas's mother Pamela six months more of full guardianship.
He is to be commended for doing this despite the fact that the investigation of Scott's wife, Eliza, has been closed for lack of evidence. I find this hard to understand in view of the fact that Scott can now mouth words. Why can the police not question him directly about whether his wife assaulted him?
His mother's attorneys have told the judge that they will be applying to have Scott declared "partially capacitated," a legal category that will allow him to refuse visits from his wife, which he has indicated he does not want, and, if all goes according to plan, to file for divorce.
It is frightening to realize that if one is declared completely incapacitated, one has no control over one's immediate environment, over who has guardianship, who is allowed to visit, or anything of the kind, even if one is able to communicated to some extent, as Scott apparently is. The court can, evidently, dispose of even a communicating fully incapacitated person as it pleases.
There are also plans underway to close Scott's trach opening, a move that will hopefully allow him to start actually speaking with sound.
