Bush NIH funds fetal tissue research

Readers of Blogs for Terri will be interested in a piece I posted as a guest on a friend's blog not long after the election last year. Here is the link. Briefly, the Bush NIH funds research using tissue from surgically aborted babies. While President Bush's opposition to federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research is well-known, and while he has taken heat for it, it is a great irony that he has made no attempt whatsoever to oppose federal funding for research using the bodies of older, surgically aborted babies. National Right to Life has refused to pressure him on this point, considering that they must put all of their energy into opposing the growth of the cloning industry and the funding of embryonic stem-cell research. Funding for fetal tissue research used to be a banner right to life political issue but has now been deliberately abandoned, even after Mr. Bush's successful re-election last fall. This is the sort of thing that is not widely known but that grassroots pro-lifers ought to be aware of.
