FROM: CHERYL FORD, NURSE SPOKESPERSON SCHINDLER FOUNDATION

TERRI'S FEEDING TUBE WAS REMOVED.

WORD WAS JUST RECEIVED THAT TERRI'S PARENTS WERE ASKED TO LEAVE TERRI'S ROOM. MICHAEL SCHIAVO WAS PRESENT WHEN THE FEEDING TUBE WAS REMOVED.

JODI'S BROTHER, J. CENTONZE STEPPED OUT OF MICHAEL'S AND JODI'S HOUSE IN CLEARWATER AND TOLD REPORTER THAT TERRI'S FEEDING TUBE HAD BEEN REMOVED. REPORTED BY BAY NEWS NINE LOCAL NEWS!

SCHIAVO SAID HE ALLOWED A PRAYER SERVICE WITHOUT THE FAMILY PRESENT.
TERRI'S PARENTS WERE ASKED TO LEAVE THEIR DAUGHTER'S ROOM AT 1:45 PM ET.

HER LAST INITIAL FEEDING BEGAN AT 11:00 AM ET. SHE HAD SOME NUTRITION PROVIDED BEFORE JUDGE GREER ORDERED HER FEEDING TUBE REMOVED STATED BARBARA WELLER, ATTORNEY FOR THE GIBBS FIRM.

TERRI'S PARENTS ARE VERY UPSET.

NOTE: THERE WAS NO REASON TO PULL HER TUBE AND PUT HER THROUGH PAIN AND DISCOMFORT. THEY COULD HAVE CAPPED HER FEEDING TUBE OFF AND PREVENTED THE PAIN SHE EXPERIENCED FROM HAVING A FEEDING TUNE PULLED FROM HER ABDOMEN.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! PEOPLE NEED TO ACT NOW.

THIS IS NO MORE HUMANE THAN WHEN THE FIRST PERSON WAS MARCHED INTO A GAS CHAMBER!

Comments

Two quick points:

(1) If "civil disobedience" aimed at ending racial segregation was so praiseworthy in the world's eyes, then how much more so is it to save an incapacitated woman's life from a total and systemic perversion of justice — particularly when this perversity reaches even unto the denial of this woman's right to Viaticum and the other Last Rites?

(2) If all the efforts to save her life do fail, and Divine Providence does indeed call her to eternal judgment at this time, then not only should some priest storm the barricades and administer Last Rites, but furthermore, he needs to tell her to offer her unjust death, in imitation of her Divine Master, in reparation for the sins of not only those personally responsible for murdering her, but for the society and culture whose collective rejection of God and His Law made her judicially-sanctioned murder possible, for which this society may well provoke the definitive judgment of Divine Justice!

Posted by: moge at March 18, 2005 3:48 PM

For future reference... (I pray this option never need to be used)

Michael Schiavo intends to cremate Terri immediately upon her death. Please see http://www.co.pinellas.fl.us/forensics/policy/policystatement.htm#CA . The Medical Examiner must approve all such requests. If Terri is killed by Michael and "Judge" [and Jury] Greer, then everyone must contact the Medical Examiner and demand an autopsy to discover not only the immediate cause of death, but the proximate cause of death.

Even Forensic Pathologist Michael Baden publicly stated that he believes that her original injuries were consitent with strangulation.

The Medical Examiner can (and should) be subject to adverse license action by the Medical Board should he fail to exercise appropriate judgement in accordance with the state medical practice act. If the Terri dies, we must all contact him immediately and demand justice for Terri. If a crime was committed, then several people need to go to jail including those who conspired to kill her (and cover it up)... Michael Schiavo, his live-in girlfriend, "Judge" Greer, the hospice staff, the physicians and those politicians and judges who failed to act on her behalf.

Grudge Greer DEMONstrates a power far more sinister and threatening than any I've ever had the misfortune to study. Why should Florida LAW _insist_ (beyond even the call of Congress & President) an innocent woman be starved to death? We have no choice but belive Jon R. Thogmartin, M.D., District Chief Medical Examiner's above post - a criminal cover-up provides the only rational explanation.

I just called Mike DeWines office and no answer. Then I called George Voinavich's and the woman who answered was not nice, said the Senate has exhausted all of their options and the real problem is with the Florida judges. I told her that was an excuse and the Fed govern. can get off their duffs on this. Excuse me while I go outside and scream.

Posted by: anonymous at March 18, 2005 4:22 PM

Terri won't go in peace. She will slowly die of starvation and dehydration. Remember that feeling when you haven't eaten anything all day and your stomach is growling? Now imagine that pain when you haven't eaten for four or five days. That's the pain Terri will feel.

If God were "calling" her, she would have died. No extraordinary measures have been taken, unless you consider food and water "extraordinary."

Posted by: sara at March 18, 2005 4:23 PM

Since

1) Judge Greer's order to also withhold NATURAL feeding was illegal by Florida statute, and

2) Terri is crying inconsolably over what is happening, and

3) Michael is crying inconsolably that Terry is able to express herself enough to cry (thus exposing his dirty little secret) ...

NOW is the time for Governor Jeb Bush show up with his motorcade and a cup of pudding and a spoon, with all the TV cameras that will fit in the room.

I wrote to him and told him so. His e-mail address is jeb@myflorida.com .

God Bless Terri Schindler-Schiavo,

Posted by: Suzanne. at March 18, 2005 4:23 PM

The parents were not in the room. Micheal Schiavo was there. Would he have done "something" particular to make sure that Terri would definitely die and die fast this time so that we will not be able to save her again as in 2003? Terri does not have a chance!

Posted by: Miranda at March 18, 2005 4:24 PM

I wonder where judge greer and michael shiavo will be comforted?

Posted by: Tress at March 18, 2005 4:26 PM

Who autjorized for the feeding tube to be put in in the first place? Are we seure that when Terri collapsed 15yrs ago that her husbabnd did not have something to do with that? Maybe he did not expect her to live this long. Since the tube is already in her body it should be left in to feed her till her body rejects everything and do no institute anything new to keep her alive.

Posted by: olive at March 18, 2005 4:26 PM

Oh those who are to quick to jump on any right-to-life bandwagon. Here is a dilemma for all you who think you know you want government involved in a family matter...A child falls ill and becomes brain damaged, the medical profession has told the family that their will NOT be any recovery, the parents make an agonizing, but loving, decision to let God take of of their baby, another family member or worse yet some JO BLOW walks in off the street and fights their decision. Under new legislation anyone who does not have an advanced directive, such as children who cannot sign one, will have someone else decide their children's fate for them. I hope to God you do not see some stranger at your door (Bible Thumpers) questioning a most agonizing decision! Get a grip people it IS Michael Schiavo's decision as her husband. It amazes me that there are so many other issues pressing in this world that all the Republicans can do is rally around this one issue that should be left up to the family!

Posted by: Angela at March 18, 2005 4:33 PM

if you really love your child, no matter what, you will not let him/her die. just like Terri's parents.

Posted by: swimmer at March 18, 2005 4:35 PM

She will go in peace. In order to feel pain you need a brain. Food and water is "extraordiary" when her request was not to live like this. I would not forgive my spouse if she didn't follow my expressed wishes concerning my death. Would you?

Terri is not crying inconsolably. She is unable to express emotions. Her brain is dead. Tears constantly run from her eyes.

Look at what you are writing. You people are really sick.

Posted by: kpwoodlock at March 18, 2005 4:38 PM

food and water is not extraordinary.

are you telling me that you should't feed your baby who cannot eat on his/her own?

we have no proof of her request.

Posted by: swimmer at March 18, 2005 4:40 PM

Who is willing to join our hero Terri in her fight (expressed with tears) to defend her inalienable right to her own life? A Nationwide hunger strike might at least put what is being done to her into a valuable perspective. We must be judged by how we treat the least and powerless among us.

Posted by: Christopher D. LeBlanc at March 18, 2005 4:40 PM

Angela, according to Judge Greer, YOU'RE on life support, because you eat food every day. How would you feel if he ordered you not to eat and restrained you to keep you from getting any for yourself? That's what he did to Terri just because she is brain-damaged. She is NOT braindead, she is NOT terminal, this is NOT hastening death, it's homicide!

Posted by: anonymous at March 18, 2005 4:41 PM

Angela, a few things....

1. It is highly doubtful that the brain damage just happened in Terri.

2. Michael Schiavo doesn't care one cent for her.

3. Her parents do.

4. oh, and There IS HOPE for Terri's recovery.

I'm sure there are more things that I missed....

Posted by: Jasmine at March 18, 2005 4:41 PM

"we have no proof of her request"

The District Court, The Appeals Court, and the Florida Supreme Court and supporting witnesses have said THAT WAS HER REQUEST.

How many times do you have to be told that?????

Posted by: kpwoodlock at March 18, 2005 4:44 PM

But I see you neglected to answer my question! Would you want anyone namely BIG GOVERNMENT in your household. If so let me know and I will be on your doorstep dreaming up things to sue you for. You are obviously Republican and Religious which , in this day and age, is the deadliest combination to our FREE society. If you need something to pray for pray for the GOD fearing soldiers who are fighting (including my brother) in a country where our lousy, lying President sent them to die!

Posted by: Angela at March 18, 2005 4:45 PM

Posted by: swimmer at March 18, 2005 4:46 PM

"She will go in peace."
In peace??!!!! Have you ever tried to go for 4 plus days without food or water?

"In order to feel pain you need a brain.

Terri is not crying inconsolably. She is unable to express emotions. Her brain is dead. Tears constantly run from her eyes."

TERRI SCHIAVO HAS A BRAIN. Her brain is NOT dead- she has expressed emotions!!

My heart breaks for her and her family. We need to keep praying and calling those in authority.

Posted by: Jasmine at March 18, 2005 4:47 PM

I am so done with the ignorant people who have a computer but no intelligence behind the keyboard to form an argumentative discussion above "are you stupid?". Get a grip, get a life, and leave others lives to themselves!

Posted by: Angela at March 18, 2005 4:48 PM

First of all, Terri isn't "brain dead". Duh! That's just plain stupid. She has severe brain damage. If she were brain dead she wouldn't be able to breathe on her own. Geez!
Secondly, I have a child with a severe brain injury. She was like Terri for several months but with rehabilitation therapies, she's made a remarkable recovery.
And regardless of what anyone thinks that her God wants her, He would have, in his infinite wisdom, taken her long ago. She's been denied therapy by her "loving" husband who lives with another woman. Yep, that's real loving in my book.
And it isn't the Republicans who blocked the bill in the Senate. It was two democratic senators. As much as I am a disgruntled republican because of the extreme right taking over my party, I am appalled at those two senators.

Posted by: leximeg at March 18, 2005 4:49 PM

I want "BIG GOVERNMENT" in my living room if they are trying to prevent my husband from murdering me!

Posted by: anonymous at March 18, 2005 4:49 PM

Tears do NOT contantly run down her cheeks. Have you even watched the videos of her? Seen that she can react?
God is not taking her... her "husband" (har har) and some judge are. Her husband has withheld therapy, treatment, etc from her based on people whose opinions agree with his. How about the NUMEROUS experts who disagree with that?
And to the person who said she can't feel pain or express emotion-- you're an idiot. It is so obvious that she DOES express emotion... she can't talk, that doesn't mean she is not a person. Your thinking is similar to that of people in the past who thought children with autism couldn't feel. True story... a young autistic boy fell off the monkey bars and needed stitches in his tongue from biting it when he fell. The doctor didn't even give him an anesthetic because the claimed the boy couldn't feel pain because his mind wasn't "normal."
Disgusting and incredibly cruel. Like this case, people don't bother to find out what's really happening and make assumptions. Who knows what the cheat she's married to has fabricated. He's been an irresponsible guardian who didn't want the bother of taking care of Terri. Terri DOES feel emotion and DOES respond to stimuli... again, read terrisfight.org and watch some of those videos. SAVE TERRI!

Hey angela and all you left-wing Pro-Deathers:

Can we starve those Terrorists who attacked our Country on 9-11?

We can't even "strip" them and treat them like the animals they are...

No, we must watch a "loving husband" murder his wife after paying a judge to allow it...(while shacking up with his girl friend who is likely going to be the next "Mrs I want to Die" shiavo.

No, we must watch an innocent woman be starved to death because a judge won't allow her to be fed...

Well, judge greer believes he is a Christian--I only hope that he understands the consequences of murder...Four Hurricanes (More)? Tsunami? Earthquake? Fires that won't die? Floods? Deep frosts to kill the fruits?

Have Mercy, Lord---be as gentle on them as they were on Terri

Posted by: Tress at March 18, 2005 4:49 PM

Angela,

I'll leave these idiots to you. Good Luck!

Posted by: kpwoodlock at March 18, 2005 4:51 PM

She did NOT say she didn't want to live! You only have her "husband's" word on that. And he didn't remember it until 1998 (convenient hmmm? that was the same year he petitioned to have the tube REMOVED). How is food and water artificial life support?

kpwoodlock,

How do you know her brain is dead? Are you a doctor that examined her?

I've seen the video of her and her mother. I am on the side of her parents on this.

Oh, btw, her husband is living in an adulterous relationship with another woman and violated Florida state law in regards to guardianship requirements. He also didn't use any of the malpractice lawsuit money for her rehabilitation like he SAID he would. Instead, he used it to hire a EUTHANASIA HUNGRY lawyer named George Felos, to KILL HER. I think he wants to cover up evidence of abuse (the husband). He wants her CREMATED immediately w/ NO AUTOPSY. He has also commented "when is that b**ch going to die?"

The husband is the key in all of this. He's a lying adulterous jerk.

Posted by: Elizabeth V at March 18, 2005 4:51 PM

And the insertion of the feeding tube is down by the doctors. You have to sign a consent form to insert the tube and this is usually done while the person is still in ICU. So 99.9 percent of the time, it's the immediate family who signs the consent.
Then the doctors come and tell you there is no hope for your child. He/she will always be in a "vegetative" state (like this isn't a human being they are discussing). And until you have gone through this with your own child/family member, you don't have a clue what a brain injury does.
If Michael truly "loves" his wife, he should have divorced her. Gone on with his life.
We were told our daughter would never breathe on her own. She is
We were told our daughter would never come out of her coma. She is.
We were told our daughter would never walk, talk, or do anything for herself again. She is.
And she still has a brain injury because your brain doesn't regenerate itself. But it can, with therapy, create new pathways to do the work of the old pathways that were destroyed.

Now, if you want to argue this with me, I'll debate it with you until the cows come home because you haven't walked in the Schindlers' shoes or ours.

Posted by: leximeg at March 18, 2005 4:54 PM

I came here because I am sick to my stomach over the fact that my beloved country is allowing a court to force loved ones to stand by while an estranged husband starves a mentally ill but much loved woman! I don't know which angle of this makes me more sick. Fortunately, the intensity is lessened as I remember that those resposible probably share IQ's with the mindless trolls who wander here - having nothing better to do with thier lives.

Posted by: Julie at March 18, 2005 4:55 PM

oh another thing, why didn't Michael say that Terri wanted to do die or not live like this a long time ago even before he got the money from the lawsuit?

Posted by: swimmer at March 18, 2005 4:56 PM

kpwoodlock,
I really have to ask you, in turn, how stupid you are.

WHERE DID THE EVIDENCE COME FROM for Terri's request?

There is ONE SOURCE. HER HUSBAND. And I don't know about you, but I have noticed a GIANT conflict of interest on his part.

Posted by: Bostonian at March 18, 2005 4:57 PM

Brain-dead people have no brain function. None. They are kept going by respirators. They can't hear, see, or feel. Compare this with the video (and eyewitness reports) of Terri smiling, laughing, and crying. She moans at the pain from menstrual cramps. So yes, she will suffer as she slowly starves to death.

Posted by: sara at March 18, 2005 4:59 PM

Oh yes I have, and the decision I made was for the grace of my child. And oh by the way I work in a critical care unit of a children's hospital and see this everyday. So I am surrounded by it all day. Don't come off holier than though until you know someone's entire story. But that is your M.O. You people feed off of news bites and clips and then decide that you all know best. You are only one sided and stick your noses in a place where it DOESN'T belong. Goodbye and GOD beware as you have many a competition for your seat here on earth.

Posted by: Angela at March 18, 2005 5:00 PM

Angela, I notice that you believe this should be "left up to the family." Are you aware that her parents want to take her home and take care of her?

You're really just OK with letting her husband decide for her? How... progressive of you.

We have only his word for what her wishes are, and Terri is NOT brain dead. (We have only HIS doctor's word for that, and dozens of neurologists have said that at least an MRI would be needed to make that determination.)

Posted by: Bostonian at March 18, 2005 5:02 PM

Good grief Angela, you seem to be taking this as an assault on all such choices.

THIS IS NOT LIKE YOUR CASE. I am sorry for your loss and sorry you had to make such a terrible decision.

This woman is aware of the world. Her husband and the people he has hired have not treated her fairly or honestly, and this judge is making a life-and-death decision based on medical evidence that is ten years old.

Posted by: Bostonian at March 18, 2005 5:06 PM

leximeg,

there's nothing to argue about. The courts ruled that the Schindlers have no standing and your daughter was in a coma, Terri is not.

Bostonian,

There were more witnesses than her husband. 2 or 3 of their friends also testified that they heard her state the same thing.

Sara,

Terri has eye movement, smiles, and moans all day and night even when people aren't there. A lot of the reaction you see with her mother is because her mother is blowing in her face. These are reactive motions not functions of the brain.

The other "experts" that say she can be cured have not even examined Terri. All the expert doctors including the ones hired by the court have said her brain is mush and she is in a persistent vegetative state. NOT A COMA.

Posted by: kpwoodlock at March 18, 2005 5:14 PM

Until God - Allah- Yahweh (or whatever you want to call it) parts the skies and tell us all how it truely is - keep your religious beliefs to yourself. This was a private family matter. This was nothing but an attempt by pro-lifers to take one step closer to trying to overturn Roe vs. Wade. If yTerri's parents truely believed they wouldn't be bothered by her death - the fact is they see their daughter as their property. I know it is a terrible loss ofr a parent to lose a child - but death is a part of life. I wish everyone involved inthis matter peace - but most of all, Terri, who seems to be the one most everyone has forgotten.

Posted by: Mark T. at March 18, 2005 5:18 PM

Why get into a lengthy court battle to remove your wife's feeding tube when you've moved on with your life? Why doesn't Michael divorce her and let her parents take care of her as they've requested? If Michael is so concerned with Terri's "life", then why hasn't she received any therapy of any sort since 1993? Why did he refuse treatment? Why did he threaten to sue doctors or nurses that provide treatment or stimulation? He tried hard for the first few years.. and then gave up. Doesn't mean her parents have to. If I had given up on a loved one with my family thought I should have, I would have missed several great years with her. She had an extreme will to live.. I think Terri does deep inside too. You'd have to going through this for 15 years.

I don't know what I would do in this situation myself.. But I do know that these questions alone should set off an alarm in a government mind somewhere.

Posted by: Shawna at March 18, 2005 5:20 PM

There are doctors willing to perform a definitive test to determine whether she is in fact in PVS, but her adulterous husband will not allow it. Perhaps her reactions are simply brain-stem impulses. Perhaps not. Michael won't let doctors find out.

God have mercy on this nation. And Angela, I truly, deeply, sincerely ask you to find another line of work. I have had a child in NICU, and I am very glad that you were not on the care team.

You are truly two of the most ignorant people I've ever had the misfortune to happen upon.

If you won't take 5 minutes to learn thr truth of this case, but feel some need to come here and repeatedly wish the slow and painful death of another human being, then I will try really hard to feel sorry for you, but that won't be easy.

I hope you're children, otherwise this country is in real trouble.

Olive, Guys, Where have you been?

If you bothered to read any of the source documents available on line, you'd see exactly what is happening.

Read this for a quick idea:

Yes, it was written by a minister, but read it anyway. It lays out the facts by someone who has investigated the case thoroughly. Terri's "diagnosis" was improperly performed.

Shawna,

If you were my spouse I would expect you to try everything upto a certain point, but then to follow my express wishes concerning my death. If you were to hand me over to my parents who were going to do something to the contrary I would want you to go to your grave knowing that I would never forgive you for failing me in my time of need.

Posted by: kpwoodlock at March 18, 2005 5:30 PM

Corrie,

3 experts have already done definitive tests to determine that she is in PVS, but her parents won't believe it nor would they believe it if you had 20 more doctors come in and 19 out 20 said the same thing, they would say "see she might recover".

Anon,

I'm 54, and it's obvious this country has been in trouble for some time, when we can't allow a poor suffering woman die in peace.

Posted by: kpwoodlock at March 18, 2005 5:42 PM

Are you aware that Rev. Johansen may have been paid by her parents, and may not be the 'disinterested' investigator he seems to want to be? At least one article indicated this to be the case.

Posted by: anonymous at March 18, 2005 5:50 PM

kpwoodlock - I'm wondering if perhaps thats what Hitler thought as he allowed all those jews to die. They were, after all, useless to "him".

Posted by: Julie at March 18, 2005 5:50 PM

kpwoodlock, come back and talk to me when you're put in the same position. You're talking out of the side of your mouth. You have no clue.

PVS is a long-term coma. It's considered a comalike state. Therefore, same. The fact is things have changed since 1990. There are rehabilitative therapies that can and should be tried before you just put someone to such a slow death.

The Schindlers have no say. Michael Schiavo now has no say because, even if he decided to renege, the courts have ruled. Well, guess he'll be able to collect what's left of the money (not much anymore because he used most of it for his lawyers) and remarry. Too bad the courts just can't let the Schindlers sign for their daughter to divorce him.

What I think would be hysterical is that she does start to talk within the next couple of days and Michael's stuck. Would serve him right.

Posted by: leximeg at March 18, 2005 6:05 PM

kpwoodlock and Angela,

First, thank you for posting. It takes a great deal of courage to post on a forum that is clearly going to shout you down. I occasionally try to do it on forums that end up shouting me down and it is very difficult.

I also apologize for those who don't treat you with respect. Please be charitable to them. This is a very difficult day for those of us who want to see Terri live and it can cloud our ability to be charitable.

However, this is what I would say in reply your issues/questions:

1. Please read the article Sara referenced you to. There is good reason to doubt the diagnosis of PVS.

2. I believe that food is not extrodinary care. Terri, as a Catholic is bound by the teachings of her Church, which teaches that food, even by a feeding tube, is not extrodinary care. The Church also teaches that suicide is immoral.

3. Just as I believe healthy people do not have the right to commit suicide, I believe those who only need a feeding tube to survive to not have the right to ask to die.

4. As much as many, even those who support Terri being kept alive, try to make this an issue about Terri's, Michaels or the Schindler's wishes, I really don't think it matters in this case. The reality is that she is not dying any more than you or I are except for one fact: she can't swallow (although there is reason to believe that she could be trained to).

So I have the following questions for you (really, please answer them, they are not rhetorical):
1. If Terri could swallow, do you think she still has the "right to die" and if so, when does someone gain that right?
2. If it is her inability to swallow that it acceptable to not feed her, could you explain what it is about swallowing that makes it the dividing line? What about the inability to raise the food to ones mouth?

Thanks.

ASG,
-I have a problem with the death penalty.
-It bothers me greatly that so many have died in Iraq, although I think at this point we need to finish what we started.

Every person that dies unnecessarily bothers me... including Terri.

Please remember two things:
-No body can be summarized by their political affiliations.
-Many who fight for Terri's life are not doing it for political gain/leverage.

Why are all the opinions of doctors (noted in the hospice link above )who think Terri is not a vegetable based only on their review of a videotape made by her parents? Sorta suggests to me that her parents may have been afraid that an actual visit could have resulted in a different opinions

Ken, there are plenty of us out here who are progressives, liberals, who are even pro-choice on abortion, hate the war in Iraq, and oppose the death penalty, and believe that supporting the starvation of brain-damaged--NOT brain-dead--people is NOT in the spirit of progressive thought.

It is, however, in the spirt of the eugenics movement and of Nazi Germany.

Knee-jerk reaction in support of the despicable Michael Schiavo because much of the support for Terri is from your political opponents doesn't change the fact Schiavo's claim stinks to high heaven.

From that report [Dr. Zabiega explained that “a CT scan can’t resolve the kind of detail needed” to make such a pronouncement: “A CT scan is like a blurry photograph.” Dr. William Bell, a professor of neurology at Wake Forest University Medical School, agrees: “A CT scan doesn’t give much detail. In order to see it on a CT, you have to have massive damage.”]

Imagine for a moment the following hypothetical since Mr. S has two children out of wedlock.
One fine day at school, one of his children is confronted with the tragic story about a young lady who was starved to death because the young lady's husband insisted it was the young lady's last wish.
Then this child learns that this young lady was once daddy's wife. The child learns that daddy didn't fight to keep her alive and even did everything he could to help her die a very slow and torturous death.
I imagine this child would eventually formulate the obvious thoughts . . .

Would daddy let/make my mommy die too?
Would daddy let/make me die?

A valid question - don't you think?

Posted by: Anonymous at March 18, 2005 9:20 PM

Take it even further -

Imagine his child learns that daddy even prevented loving family from protecting them from a planned
legal death sentence.

Imagine the child learns that daddy profitted from death . . .a death that may have been initiated by daddy's anger.

Does Daddy get angry?

Posted by: Anonymous at March 18, 2005 9:24 PM

Anonymous,

His kids are probably smart enough to grasp and understand the whole concept of right to die, keeping the last wishes of a spouse and facing reality.

kp - So, you are under the impression that kids relate to and understand the implications of the term "Right to die"?

How convenient to teach young children about imposed death sentences with sterile terminology!

How difficult would it be for the same child to imagine being barred access to any food or water for

1/2 day?

1 entire day?

2 days?

3 days?

4 days?

Tell us kp - how many children do you know that can imagine not eating or drinking for days at a time?

Eventually, Mr. S's children will become aware of the actually meaning of what they have been told or taught. You can bet on it.

May God bless and give strength to Terri, her loving family and all who struggle to save her life.

I just saw Foul Felos on Larry King Live, saying how awful it is that Terri has been force-fed for so long. Let's, for a moment, pretend this is true... the government can force-feed protestors who are on a hunger strike. So, all we have to do is have Terri declared to be on a hunger strike, and that way she can have food again.

Survivors and world leaders gathered in Poland on January 27, 2005 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the largest and most notorious of the Nazi death camps.

Interesting...that on this historic anniversary, the disabled persons in the US live in fear of being court ordered to their deaths. Remember...In Nazi Germany, the death orders were first issued to the disabled, the weak, the ill, the elderly. It was justified as "merciful". It was explained as their lives "lack quality" and they lived "lives unworthy of life". The public actually accepted these rationalizations and felt it was the "right thing to do"
Sound familiar ?

PS Ken:
"...her G-d is calling her"
PSST..Michael is not G-d.
Though he make think he is....
Michael is killing her.
You are very scarry.

This man Felos, who claims he is so concerned with Terri's dignity, on national TV has referred to Terri as a "houseplant". Dignity?
Michael, this man who claims to be riveted to being true to his wife, on national TV has called Terri a "vegetable" Loyalty?

I am a Special Educator with 35 years of working for the empowerment of the disabled. I find Mr Felos /Shiavo's comments "disgusting". They are an insult to every human being who has been humbled by brain injury. They need to learn that in order to experience a "death with dignity" , a person must first be afforded a "life with dignity". If Michael has never allowed Terri a "life with dignity"..how the hell can he expect to provide her with this "dignity " in death ? Brain injury may very well be humbling...that's true. But to be dead with a rotting body ..now what is so dignified about that?
Study History
State Courts are not infallible....
The State courts cried "foul" during the Racial Civil Rights scandals in the 60's too. The State courts also felt they had the situation under control...and that Congress was interferring. But it took the Congressiaonal Investigations, Fedral supeonas and Federal Marshalls to descend on the courthouses throughout the southern states before the horrid corruption of segregation and hatefilled crimes could be revealed and dealt with!

So it is with the Civil Rights of the Disabled.
Terri is not alone. Thousands of disabled people live in fear of court ordered deaths at the hand of overburdened , self serving relatives.
The backroom court ordered deaths of disabled people must be stopped.
It begins with stopping those who would dehumanize the disabled with terms like "houseplants" as they sanction backroom confinement in the name of privacy.
I say those moral mutants are the ones who should have court ordered deaths.

Regarding the censorship of the above comment, I did so because said commenter did not call you Hitler. It was a comparison of the disposal of "worthless lives"/"useless eaters" that the Nazis instituted--200,000 disabled BEFORE they went after the Jews. It's a fact, actually.

Sorry you felt singled out, but it was just that particular comment. Believe me, there have been far worse that you won't see and those people don't get to stick around. Just sayin'.

Posted by: Beth at March 19, 2005 3:08 AM

And since you and Jo are discussing the topic...
this from a civil libertarian in the Village Voice, believe it or not:
----------------

In an article in the July 14, 1949, New England Journal of Medicine, Dr. Alexander warned that the Nazis’ crimes against humanity had “started from small beginnings . . . merely a subtle shift in emphasis in the basic attitude of the physicians. It started with the acceptance, basic in the euthanasia movement, that there is such a thing as life not worthy to be lived.” That shift in emphasis among physicians, said Dr. Alexander, could happen here, in America.

Actually, the devaluing of apparent “imperfect life” had begun years before, in the United States. Various academics, in and out of the medical profession, had successfully advocated and instituted a eugenics movement—the perfecting of future generations of Americans by deciding who, depending on their hereditary genes, would be allowed to have children. The unfit would no longer be permitted to reproduce.

These American eugenicists provided German proponents of a “master race” with inspiration. As Robert Jay Lifton wrote in his invaluable book The Nazi Doctors (Basic Books), “A rising interest in eugenics [in America had] led, by 1920, to the enactment of laws in twenty-five states providing for compulsory sterilization of the criminally insane and other people considered genetically inferior.” (Emphasis added).

To all you people that are blaming the judges:

This is my last message in this blog. I'm moving on to bother people at other places but I want you to understand this:

The first thing Fidel Castro did when he took power in Cuba was to get rid of all the judges because he didn't like how they ruled the courts.

I know you'll find this hard to believe because you didn't hear it on Fox News, but you can easily check it out if you're not too lazy.

Posted by: kpwoodlock at March 19, 2005 2:35 PM

I am sorry I can't agree with the Judges in the case of Terri, and excuse me if I don't have any compassion for her husband. In any other court case, here say is not excepted, but in this one it was.(WHY?)Even the people on death row are not starved to death, they are given a lethal injection, and are aloud to die quickly.Whether or not people want to here it we must all meet the ultimate judge and will be held accountable for our actions. These judges are no exception. They will then find out what they did was wrong, and believe me they will be held accountable. You are not even aloud to starve a dog to death, but they can starve a living, breathing human being. If this doesn't bother you something is wrong.

Are there laws against bigamy in Florida? If so, isn’t Michael Schiavo committing bigamy by continuing to be married to Terri and having a common law wife and children?

How can the courts allowed someone who is in the process of committing a crime continue to be the guardian of Terri and make the decision he has made?
