AP via Wired News: Outside the hospice where Schiavo is being cared for, five protesters were arrested, and about a half-dozen people in wheelchairs got out of them and lay in the driveway, shouting "We're not dead yet!" Schiavo's husband, who a day earlier denied a request from his wife's parents that she be given communion, granted permission Sunday to offer the sacrament. Praise God for that. A great evil has been done here, and probably goes on all the more than we know. In my grief I commented here before that Terri Schaivo's death does nothing for us. I was wrong. Through her suffering she has made many aware of the tide of death threatening our culture and our way of life. She has prompted an outpouring of prayer and compassion the likes of which I haven't seen in a long time. God Bless her and keep her. Posted by: RightAlltheTime at March 27, 2005 10:19 PM Praise be to God for allowing this. However, I must also point out that it's possible (MY OPINION ONLY) that Felos advised Michael to allow this for one reason - to eliminate the charge of denying Terri's religious rights. THAT could have been a reason for either President Bush or Governor Bush to intervene. By allowing a drop of the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, they have eliminated that possibility. I praise God for allowing this. Since in my opinion, the courts would probably have nullified any steps either President Bush or Governor Bush did in response to a denial of religious rights, it was wonderful that Terri was given that much. And of course, had the Schindlers taken this up with the courts themselves, they probably would have denied their request (in my opinion). Furthermore, take a look at the article linked from the blog message. The priest who administered the Sacrament indicated that he could not provide her with a fleck of the Precious Body of Christ because her tongue was dry. Hmm, I recall that on Holy Saturday (yesterday) Felos came out to a press conference saying Terri was "peaceful" and "beautiful." If one's tongue is dried out, that is NOT beautiful and peaceful. Posted by: cw at March 27, 2005 10:46 PM Tony--Terri was not dying anymore than you or me and she was not unresponsive. She responded to her parents and friends and doctors and a machine did not keep her alive. She is alive on her own and only needed to be fed with her feeding tube. She was also not suffering and with the proper treatments may have been able to eat on her own and be rehabilatated some more. No one removed life support, only a feeding tube and a court order that she could not receive food from anyone, so she is being killed by starvation. Dying naturally could be by starvation in a Third World country because of lack of food. Dying by starvation in the United States in a medical facility with the means of feeding a patient is killing. Please do pray for Terri and her family. Posted by: littlesoldier at March 27, 2005 10:51 PM How can any civilized country allow a judge to prohibit oral feeding???? Posted by: sujata at March 27, 2005 11:11 PM Tony - the question really is not for you to ask or to answer, for that matter. The choice to live is up to each individual in this situation - NOT what you would do or Jesus, frankly. Since all clear thinking people admit there is simply no way to know Terri's wishes, we cannot know if Terri would approve. Therefore we are left to ponder, what should the law require for documentation and if such documentation is not present at the time of incompetence (sp?) which way should the law err? For life or death? I don't know about you, but I could never kill someone if I didn't know it was their true wish. That's why it is right to keep Terri alive, because to err on the side of death is something we simply don't do in America - not for convicted murderers or even our dogs or cats. 'Nuff said. Posted by: WA Mom at March 27, 2005 11:12 PM Sujata - I'm flabbergasted by it as well. I read one of the Schindler's lawyer's comments from an early article some years ago who said she was warned that Greer did not have a reverse gear in his vehicle. Once he made up his mind, there is no changing it. Seems that she was told right. :( Posted by: WA Mom at March 27, 2005 11:15 PM Most of us have been wondering the same thing, and fighting to keep it from happening. How can people POSSIBLY be on this site and STILL believe she was dying and unresponsive? I have vowed to cancel my subscription to the pro-death liberal Phila. Inquirer, as well as stop watching most news that is on, FOX included. I think my brain will explode if I hear Shep Smith say one more myth about Terri. Frankly, my time is better spent in prayer and working to end an injustice like this. God please help us to see the truth! Posted by: I hope at March 27, 2005 11:16 PM Tony, you have said you "believe in the Ten Commandments." Do you know that the 5th Commandment states "Thou shalt not kill"? Please note that Terri is a Catholic. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (1994 edition, which is the current edition for the whole world) has some information on the situation in which Terri is involved. Note #'s 2276-2281. They cover euthanasia and suicide. You suggest that this is "life support." Terri is NOT on a ventilator. As such, she is NOT on "life support." She is a disabled person. Period. The courts have disposed of a disabled person by ruling that it is her wish. Anyone can become disabled at any time. Let's also note that it seems quite odd that she ALLEGEDLY only communicated that wish to her husband and HIS side of the family. She mysteriously never communicated said wish to anyone on HER side of the family. She is NOT unresponsive. A lawyer for the family said she stated "Aahh wahhh" AFTER SHE TOLD HER TO SAY "I want to live." Please read what Father Frank Pavone has to say about Terri. Bear in mind that if Father Frank Pavone was not telling the truth, it would be a MORTAL SIN and especially grave if it came from a priest. Further more, ask yourself these questions: 1. If Terri is truly "unresponsive" and "dying" (prior to the court ordered sentence of starvation and starvation, I mean), why did Michael Schiavo forbid tape recordings and photos during the last several years? Why did he not allow the media in to see her? If he allowed either of these things, it would only HELP his case. 2. If Terri is truly in a "persistent vegetative state" then why did judge Greer deny the ability to provide food and water orally? If she was truly in a "PVS" she would not swallow. This would HELP Michael's case. But instead, in the United States of America, Greer has denied anyone from being able to give her food and water. His order has caused police to arrest CHILDREN. Remember, this is the United States of America in the year 2005. This is not NAZI Germany between the years 1933 and 1945 (Hitler's reign). This is NOT Stalin's Soviet Union from the late 1920s to 1953. This is the United States of America in 2005. But I am getting sidetracked in my response here. The focus of this blog entry is the fact that Terri Schiavo was allowed a drop of the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. This is truly a wonderful event. But like I said before, in my OPINION, Felos possibly told Michael to do this to prevent Governor Bush or President Bush from pursuing charges for violating Terri's religious rights. Again, my OPINION. I don't have any idea if this is true, this is just my own personal speculation. Posted by: cw at March 27, 2005 11:41 PM My heart is so broken over this and because both Bush brothers refuse to do anything about it, it's worse. I am in the fight with all of you to make everyone who had a part of killing Terri pay for her death, especially scumbag adulterer husband, Greer and Jeb. Posted by: Marine Momma at March 27, 2005 11:42 PM Halleluiah! I heard she was also given Last Rights as well. The larger question here should be that if she was capable of swallowing wine why can't she be allowed to swallow water? Posted by: MoFiZiX Gr4FiX at March 27, 2005 11:46 PM
Posted by: kraxxis at March 28, 2005 12:18 AM Kraxxis, George Greer denied the parents their request for a divorce on their daughter's behalf. He has roadblocked every move to save her life at this juncture. Tony, I am getting very tired of people who claim that they are Christian making self-serving statements like the one that you have made. Others have already given a reasoned response to the childish comments that you made. I will therefore emphasize one thing and that is, Jesus would do more than keep Terri on life support, for He would also reward her parents for their belief in Him, and if he were among us today He would cure her, just as he cured the man who had been a cripple for 38 years. When Lazarus was dying Jesus allowed him to die before coming to see His friend. He had a miracle in mind that was to shock those who were present. Lazarus had been 4 days in the tomb when Jesus raised him from the dead. The faith that we have in God can sustain us, and right now that faith is also sustaining Terri Schiavo. I am pleased that Terri has been allowed to finally receive the viaticum that has been denied to her for such a long time. I agree with the comment that there is an ulterior motive behind this move and that perhaps the ever crafty George Felos told him to allow it to take off some of the pressure that had been building up. You can bet on a sure thing that Felos and Greer have been reading our blogs and they have been checking out the contents of the Empire Journal. Felos is so crafty that he has probably figured by now that he has to take off some of the heat in this situation, and this is a small concession. We still need to get Terri out of death camp Woodside. Posted by: Maggie4life at March 28, 2005 12:29 AM I hope that the Schindlers can manage to record one of their visits with Terry, especially if Terry speaks, as she has always done. They'd have to smuggle the recording equipment in. Perhaps they can somehow manage to get that out to the press. Tell the truth and shame the devil. The article says that Mary didn't visit Terry for Easter. I can certainly understand that. She has to go in there and deal with all those nasty people. Yet, I am sure that her visits help Terry. I'm hoping she can resume soon. Bob, Bobby and Suzanne visited, at least, I hope. Why isn't anybody doing anything to get her out of there? I can't believe this. I just can't believe this country is that low. Even the Bush brothers-----I know they could do something. What is wrong here? Please, somebody, do something. That drop of Our Lord's Precious Blood may work a miracle. I hope that the Schindlers are telling her that the entire world loves her, and the entire world is trying to help get her out of there. Surely that will help her. What if there's a heavy rain in Pinellas Park, and the roof of the hospice leaks? Tee, hee. [Reminds me of a little story our priest told at Mass yesterday--------A man was telling his friend about his trip to the desert. He had become lost in the desert, and could not find his way out. He was thirsty, and getting scared, so he prayed really hard, although he was not normally a religious man. His friend asked, "So, did God answer your prayers?" The man said, "Well, he never had a chance to do so, because a guy came by and showed me the way out."] The article says that the priest at the local Catholic Church didn't even mention Terry at Mass. What on earth . . . ? Our bishop spoke of her at all three Triduum Masses, and the priest spoke of her again at Easter. God bless. Pray for Terry. Don't forget the Divine Mercy Novena. Today is the fourth day. I hope I can just jump in, because I missed Saturday and Sunday. Pray to St. Jude, St. Dymphna, St. Dismas, St. Rita, and especially the Blessed Mother. Posted by: Huntgoddess at March 28, 2005 7:02 AM I too have suspicions on why the Schiavo team changed their minds regarding allowing Terri communion... but you know what? Praise God, they did allow it and she received it. I am so thankful. Posted by: Foug at March 28, 2005 7:31 AM I didn't see Tony's comment on here. What in the world did he say, anyway? Oh, sanderson, if these people were even half deserving of your faith in them, none of this would be happening. Also, Terri was planning on divorcing michael, and she must have let him know that. My ex would have killed me for that, too, and I knew it. That's why I told him I was taking the kids to the Dairy Queen. Posted by: mary et. al. at March 28, 2005 8:32 AM Sanderson, let's remember, the entire case from Michael Schiavo and George Felos is that Terri is "PVS" and cannot communicate in any way. They insist that she told Michael and happened to also tell some of HIS relatives (but none of her own relatives) "no tubes for me." If, as you suggest, Terri was saying she wanted to die, well, then she is NOT "PVS." If she was able to communicate and SAID she wanted to die, this would amount to suicide. This would be a violation of secular law (remember, this is FLORIDA, not Oregon or the Netherlands) and more importantly a violation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Terri is a devout Catholic. Besides, the claim from her lawyer is that Terri was told to repeat the statement "I want to live." If she is able to respond to a request to repeat something, she is able to think and communicate. And if she did not want to live, she could have said "no." Since she was able to speak based on the Schindlers' statement, the ONLY course of action logical is to immediately reinsert the tube and get speech therapy for her once she recovers from NEARLY TEN DAYS of no food and water by court order. Once the speech therapist has completed his/her work, perhaps Terri could be asked to finish that sentence she started. I would say Terri should be asked to finish the sentence either on national television or in front of Congress - specifically in front of the Congresspeople (53 Democrats and 5 Republicans) who voted in favor of the status quo - allowing her to die via starvation and dehydration. When Terri married Michael Schiavo, both she and Michael took marriage vows. They vowed before God to love one another in richer or poorer, sickness and health, better or worse, etc. A marriage is between ONE man and ONE woman. Period. It is not between one man, one woman, and a live-in girlfriend on the side with whom one has children. In my opinion, by the fact that Michael has a live-in girlfriend and children by that woman, this should nullify any right he has to remember (years after the event that put Terri in her condition) "Terri's wishes." Furthermore, it is alleged that Michael slipped up on Larry King on CNN saying he did not know Terri's wishes. I did not watch the interview (I don't make it a habit to watch CNN) but this has been alleged by other blogs. When Terri married Michael, I highly doube she gave consent to him living with another woman while married to her (and in God's eyes, even if they get a secular divorce, they are still married). I also doubt she gave him permission to decide her fate under these circumstances. Furthermore, since Terri did not write anything down, we do not have any clue what her wishes were prior to entering this disabled state. The presumption should be for LIFE. Period. Posted by: cw at March 28, 2005 9:02 AM Sanderson, I find it interesting that you have come to THIS response thread to talk about something other than the original blog article. You are talking about Terri possibly communicating a wish to die. You are talking about living wills. You are talking about Michael being allowed to break his marriage vows and move on (I believe it is a misdemeanor in Florida to have an affair with another person of the opposite sex while married). You are talking about Michael being made into a monster. The original article talks about Terri being allowed to receive Holy Communion. There was FIRST a denial and then a reversal of said denial. Your original note was posted at 7:56 AM. Blogs for Terri had three MORE RECENT articles posted by that point. So why not put these questions in one of those three? But I'll pose the question to you: If Michael is so loving and such a wonderful husband who is always looking out for Terri's rights, WHY did he deny Terri (a Roman Catholic) Holy Communion in the first place? And after said denial, what was the reason for reversal? MY OPINION is that the reason for the reversal was that the denial would have created a situation that could have allowed Jeb Bush to intervene. Now I'll respond to your message. Again, Michael took marriage vows. People WITNESSED the wedding. Did Michael take funny wedding vows like "till disabilities do us part"? A vow is a vow. Period. It is not "move on" when one becomes incapacitated. Husbands and wives do not even have the right to allow their spouse to do that. A vow before God is vow. Period. Of course, if you want to talk about "moving on" then he should have allowed the Schindlers to have their daughter back. A man cannot "move on" with his life by living with another woman (and having children by her) and at the same time being the guardian for his real wife who is locked away in a hospice for years. If he wanted to "move on" then he should have let the Schindlers take care of Terri and taken no responsibility for her whatsoever. You say "We do not know what Terri would have wanted." Precisely. We do not know. Thus, the presumption should be for LIFE and for her to have SPEECH THERAPY to communicate her wishes. Even so, if she communicated a wish to die, she is then not "PVS" and therefore such a wish would amount to suicide which is illegal. Furthermore, Terri is a devout Catholic. Euthanasia is a MORTAL SIN. Assisted suicide and suicide are MORTAL SINS. When a person dies in a state or mortal sin (in the Catholic Church one must confess all mortal sins to a priest and receive Sacramental Absolution from that priest in order to return to a state of grace), their soul goes to hell for eternity. Mortal sins means full knowledge of the gravity and wrongfulness of the act, committing the act, and full consent of the will to commit the act. Terri is not on a ventilator and is NOT on "life support." Posted by: cw at March 28, 2005 10:12 AM Would some one or more of you please follow up on I hope and Baldwin's finds on the DCF and FDLE reports. I've got to go and turn this line back over to our business, but I will check in from time to time. Also, who out there knows the status of the final Marian dogma (co-redemptrix, mediatrix and advocate). I've been praying daily for years for this, as we're promised a time of peace when it is done. God bless, can't wait to get back with you. Posted by: mary et. al. at March 28, 2005 10:30 AM W. Where are the activist groups who scream about "Separation of Church and State" all the time? Oh, that's right--they only care about it when it's something "religious" being brought into the "public system", like when a prayer is said at a school football game. It is SO MADDENING how little sense these extremists make! Yet, they think they sound SOOO intelligent, and WE are the "unenlightened ones???!!! HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Posted by: JIHC at March 28, 2005 1:33 PM JIHC, you make an excellent point. I was told today (note this is third hand knowledge - I cannot verify it) that the court (Greer's, I assume) ordered that only a priest from within hospice could provide Terri with Communion. Talk about separation of church and state! ANY priest should have been allowed to walk into the hospice to provide her with Holy Communion. Most particularly, the Monsignor who had been administering the Sacrament to her in the past. Oh and regarding your comment about England, IN MY OPINION, we now have a new King George. America declared independence during the reign of King George III. In my opinion, we finally now have King George IV. Afterall, Greer has defied the United States Congress. And in response, the Senate and House Majority Leaders made some statements about holding Greer in contempt of Congress, etc. All of that has turned out to be nothing more than hot air in my opinion.
