Schiavo Fight Goes To Washington, Tallahassee

Topics: Action Items

- the Empire Journal
Seventeen pro-family groups along with Jacksonville Justice Coalition members and founder Ted Hires will conduct a “Rose Rally for Terri” Sunday, March 13 in Tallahassee, five days before the feeding tube of neurologically impaired Terri Schiavo of Pinellas Park, Fl., is scheduled for removal.

For me, one of the most important messages in the article is:

“This is both a life and death struggle for Terri Schiavo and a watershed fight for all disabled people”, said Dr. Cass. “The prospect of a long, painful death from starvation and dehydration that may commence for Terri Schiavo on March 18 sends an ominous signal to people with disabilities nationwide. No just society can allow such cruel and inhumane treatment to take place, especially on such a flimsy and ill-founded legal foundation”.

The real issue here is that as it goes for Terri Schiavo, it also goes for the rest of us. If George Greer, George Felos, Michael Schiavo, and the rest of the anti-life euthanasia crowd win - we all lose!

The House Judiciary Committee will hold hearings on HR 1151 (Incapacitated Persons Legal Protection Act of 2005)on Wednesday, March 16, 2005. Comments can be phoned to the committee at 202.225.3951. Knowing how slowly legislation can move through the system, I suggest callers may want to remind the Congressmen to think of Terri every time they pause to drink liquids. They then should consider what it would be like if they couldn't take that drink of water.
