Breaking: DCF and Governor Bush have new information - Going back to Greer

Topics: Medical Issues

The Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, just completed a press conference with Tampa Bay media. He says that the Department of Children and Families, through Adult Protective Services are conducting an investigation of abuse against Terri Schiavo. As part of that, a neurologist by the name of Dr. Cheshire, observed Terri, lengthy videos of her and her case record. He has concluded that she is not in a persistent vegetative state. Rather, he felt she was minimally conscious if not functioning higher.

Needless to say, this is cause for tremendous alarm with Terri not receiving nutrition and hydration in more than 5 days.

There is a 3.45 pm hearing on this matter. Developing...

I would assume that they will help her *immediately*, then!

I don't like that last sentence, though - it has been cause for tremendous alarm from Day 1. No human being should have to suffer the way she has.

Still, this is a ray of hope. Please Lord, continue to work. You are for *life*, not death.

Going back to Greer??? Oh Lord, we need prayers and prayers and prayers.

Posted by: Sandy at March 23, 2005 3:49 PM

As if Greer is going to rule against his own decision! ..this is only showing how unjust the US Judicial system can be.

Posted by: demonsurfer at March 23, 2005 3:52 PM

Oh if we could only get the calvary in there now with tubes and water!

Every one pray for Terri's safe deliverance from deprivation and that she be renewed with life supporting nutrition and hydration with God's speed and protection.....every minute is impotant.

Posted by: JoMarley at March 23, 2005 3:53 PM

Where are you getting the going back to Greer info? Would someone out there speak to me?

Posted by: MARY at March 23, 2005 3:53 PM

They can't give Terri orally administered liquids--her parents petitioned Greer for permission to do that and were denied last week before the tubes were removed!

Posted by: baltimoremom at March 23, 2005 3:54 PM

I saw it on FOX.

Posted by: Virginia at March 23, 2005 3:55 PM

All I want to do is fall in a heap to the floor and pray. Praise God that Jeb Bush is pushing an investigation forward!

Posted by: Amy at March 23, 2005 3:56 PM

They will do what they need to do to keep her alive in this situation. Please please get her in time and place Michael in jail for attempted murder.

There is a ray of light! Thank you God!

My only hope is, if all else fails, there is some authority to take away Michael's ability to cremate Terri. THAT would end things once and for all.

Posted by: Sharon Ferguson at March 23, 2005 3:58 PM

So...I'm guessing there's some legal/procedural reason why it would go back to Greer. Can anyone explain why this is?

Posted by: Hannah at March 23, 2005 3:58 PM

Looks like there might be a couple of possibilities converging...

It's so atrocious that our court system is about procedure and not about the truth. People who work with Terri daily were discounted as irrelevent testimony while a doctor who saw Terri for a few minutes once per month (years ago) is given creedence. Caretakers wrote copious notes of how she responded, but one or two doctors can write a sentence (pun intended) declaring her vegetative and the case is closed. Now other doctors chime in an say that there's no way to tell from one CAT scan, yet their voices are ignored too.

The courts are tasked to apply the laws created by the legislative and executive branch of gov't...not to find out the truth. When a miscarriage of justice occurs, the other branches have the obligation to fine tune the law since our courts are not supposed to make law. Yet the public thinks the other branches are interfering when they're just doing they're job.

I find it a shame that the courts cling to process and don't demand that the other branches fix obvious errors in the law. (florida's 1999 rule stating that feeding tubes were extroidinary means, and the florida guardianship laws [....and kickbacks to lawyers]). IMHO, it's obvious that combining those two laws has allowed Florida lawyers (who contribute to judges re-election campaigns) to launder the money of the elderly and incapacitated through a guardian and into their pockets. Michael's aggressive nature allowed him to be used. He was ripe for the picking to be set up to get Terri's money robbed. The entire court system in Florida is complicit, so there's no way they want light shown on this.

The court in Atlanta is upholding the laws that Florida has. They're not trying to be fair or find out the truth. They probably already know the truth that Terri's not PVS. But they're weenies who won't take action because they're directive is to *not make law* even if there's a clear case of abuse of law.

That's my take as to why all of this is happening. It's absolutely shocking that no person of power will take a stand.

DCF may take Terri into protective custody...

Posted by: m at March 23, 2005 4:00 PM

Wimp. Bush sending it back to Greer. Like asking Hitler for permission to save a Jew. Won't happen. Unless his "constituents" have had a change of heart after all these years (he IS elected) and put enough pressure on him about it.

I let St Pete and FL State tourism know a place where they arrest a 5 year old but shake in fear of Michael is no place I'm going.

Posted by: Rosalind at March 23, 2005 4:01 PM

This is great news.

And I just want to point out to those "liberals are scum" crowd that the dissenting vote of the three justices this morning came from a Clinton appointee - had the Bush appointee sided with him, Terri would be eating right now!

Let's all realize that Dem or Rep, we can all love life!

Posted by: Betsy at March 23, 2005 4:01 PM

Julie, AMEN!!

praying allot for Terri, and Jeb Bush.

Posted by: Pamela at March 23, 2005 4:01 PM

Lord hear our prayers.

Posted by: jayne at March 23, 2005 4:02 PM

I have to turn off the TV. I cannot stand to hear the c*%p Shep is spewing.

I can't believe it is going BACK to Greer. Are they really expecting a different outcome?

Assuming the dr examined her today, most of us would be minimally conscious without food and water for 5 days, and limited human contact.

I have to take care of my kids and pray. Constant rosaries coming Terri's way. Anytime I am tempted to eat I offer up a prayer that her body gets nourished with each bite I take. And her family has peace and strength.

Pray without ceasing.

Posted by: I hope. at March 23, 2005 4:02 PM

I am praying for Terri. Praying that these "religious" hypocrites butt out of her life and let her wishes be respected. Let her die in peace. And whoever told her parents that she'll lose her soul when she dies is no Christian.

Betsy -

You're right, and I thank God for the Democrats in favor of Terri that have made themselves heard on this.

Posted by: Virginia at March 23, 2005 4:05 PM

Agreed! It doesn't matter how different our beliefs are. We are all in this together to fight for Terri!!!

Hang in there Terri!! Please hang on...

Posted by: Sirena at March 23, 2005 4:06 PM

Why is this going back to Greer? Rosalind, you're absolutely right. How can this go back to Greer? He's the Grim Reaper...

Posted by: Sirena at March 23, 2005 4:07 PM

thanks m - http://news.tbo.com/news/MGBXR0RXN6E.html

"TALLAHASSEE - The Department of Children & Families said Wednesday morning it is considering invoking its right under Florida statute to provide protective services to certain ``vulnerable adults'' and applying it to the Terri Schiavo case.

In a brief conversation with reporters, Secretary Lucy Hadi said the department is considering all options, but specifically pointed to a provision that she said would allow the department to take a vulnerable person into its custody without prior judicial approval.

The provision states: ``[if] a person is likely to incur a risk of death or serious physical injury if such person is not immediately removed from the premises, then the representative of the department shall transport or arrange for the transportation of the vulnerable adult to an appropriate medical or protective services facility in order to provide emergency protective services.''

The department would first have to file a petition with the court, but could act before the court is able to schedule a hearing.

Asked whether DCF would be hindered by years of litigation that have upheld the right of Michael Schiavo, Terri's husband, to remove her feeding tube, Hadi said: ``We're not required to look at prior judicial proceedings.''

Meanwhile, Bobby Schindler, Terri Schiavo's brother, lobbied state senators to seek their support for a bill that they hope would lead to the reinsertion of Terri's feeding tube. Reporter Garrett Therolf can be reached at (850) 222-8382. g"

I just called Jebs office. I cried pleading for her life. I told the rep that Michael is a murderer. Don't let him get away with it.

I knew he was a murderer.

Posted by: Julie at March 23, 2005 4:08 PM

They are probably filing the paperwork now. As soon as received, they should go pull her out. As it says, it doesn't matter about Judicial matters.

Posted by: Julie at March 23, 2005 4:11 PM

It stands out to me how people from across the political spectrum are rallying behind Terri. As Betsy pointed out, this is not a lib/conservative issue. This is about people wanting to find the truth, and save a life.

I hope this works.

Malcolm, if you're not going to be supportive, you can leave you know. This is a website in support of Terri. If you don't believe she has a right to live then why bother being here?

Thank you.

Now is the time to pray for Judge Greer. Our Lady has the power (God given) to touch the hardest hearts. Pray for him to relent even if he doesn't repent. Pray for the DFC, FL legis., Gov. Bush, and ANYONE ELSE WHO MAY BE COMING TO TERR'S RESCUE. PRAY, PRAY, PRAY FOR HASTE!!!!!

Posted by: Betsy at March 23, 2005 4:25 PM

Hey, I watched Jeb, and there was

With the new more solid evidence DCF has on the misdiagnosis and abuse, they are leaning hard on the Florida legislature and Jeb hopes to have a bill to sign by the end of the day. I don't believe he'd be stupid enough to go back to Greer, who is PART of the pattern of abuse.

Posted by: Suzanne. at March 23, 2005 4:25 PM

What I find difficult to comprehend is why nobody seems to see the urgency of this. Why didn't the first federal judge to look into this case immediately order re-insertion of the tube? Letting her die during a case intended to determine whether or not she should die would be a dreadful injustice.

What is wrong with those judges? How can they sit around talking while a woman starves to death?

Malcom this is a pro life website.

This is not debating website.

The website at this time is being used to convey phone numbers and other pertinant information to save terri's life.
